Toisan Hung Gar

Si Gung Wong Chun-Yip, Head Sifu of Chung Lau village is the grandfather of grandmaster Mark Chan. Also the first Kung fu teacher of the Late Paul Chan (Chan Yuk)

Hung Gar or what would become Hung Gar originated in the shaolin temple. Five monks (Hung, Choy, Lee, Mok, Lau,) from shaolin migrated south to flee from the Qing government. As they wandered they taught their own styles of Kung fu to many villages on their journey to the south. The five families (Hung Gar, Choy Gar, Lee Gar, Mok Gar, Lau Gar,) are the beginning of the Original Hung Mun/ Secret Society/ Traditional Clansman Association, which provided a safe space and support for the Ming people.
